Firmware v7.0 announced for Sony F5 and Sony F55Thursday, September 10, 2015 2:00 PM
January 2016 will see Sony release the latest firmware - version 7.0 - for its popular F5 and F55 4K cameras, with the highlight being the arrival of a Rec. 2020 colour space, writes WTS production specialist Patrick van Weeren.
S-Gamut3: Rec. 2020 colour gamut
For me, the advent of 4K has always been not just about more pixels and higher resolution, but about high dynamic range and a wider colour gamut. And now Sony is set to give F5 and F55 CineAlta users the widest colour gamut of any motion picture camera, with its S-Gamut3.
Simultaneous recording of HD and 4K
There's good news for documentary makers too, with Sony responding to demand for the ability to shoot simultaneous HD and 4K of 50i with 50p/59.94i with 59.94p, to the same SxS Pro+ card.
Enhanced operability with new interface
And the operability is set for an upgrade too, with easier access to the cameras' features via the sub-display and the silver buttons on the camera body.
Anyone heading to Amsterdam for IBC 2015 wil be able to get a hands-on preview of the new firmware at the Sony stand.
